Tamara Jeffries-Jackson

Dr. Tamara Jeffries-Jackson is vice president for student affairs at South Carolina State University, a position to which she was promoted after serving as the interim assistant vice president.

She provides overall leadership and direction for the division and manages the offices of Career Placement and Planning, Counseling and Self-Development, Brooks Health Center, Intramural Sports, Residential Life and Housing, Student Life and Leadership and Judicial Affairs. Under her leadership, these units work in tandem to coordinate and implement programs, activities and services to maximize student learning and development. 

Education

  • Bachelor of Arts in communications from Howard University.
  • Master of Arts in rehabilitation counseling from South Carolina State University.
  • Ph.D. in counselor education from the University of South Carolina. 

Background

Dr. Jeffries-Jackson has nearly 30 years of experience in higher education and has served in various capacities. Other positions held by Jeffries-Jackson at SC State include research and planning administrator in the Office of Institutional Research, hearing officer in the Office of Judicial Affairs and coordinator of distributive learning in the Department of Educational Technology Services. She has also served as an adjunct professor in the departments of social sciences, counselor education and family and consumer sciences.

She is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the American Counseling Association and Phi Delta Kappa.
