Background

Dr. Heape has been at SC state in an adjunct capacity since 2015. She has mentored student research, presented at state and national conventions, and published in a peer-reviewed journal with SPA students. She is a full-time clinical educator for a large healthcare company, where she has led multiple interdisciplinary teams and authored corporate clinical programs, supporting therapists of over 100 skilled nursing facilities.  She received her Doctor of Clinical Science and a certificate in healthcare education from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.  She is an adjunct professor for RMU and South Carolina State University.

More About Dr. Amber Heape

Dr. Heape is a fellow of the National Academies of Practice, is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, a Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional, and volunteers with organizations that promote and preserve quality care in aging.  She has authored numerous continuing education courses and has presented at state and national conferences across the United States.  Amber currently serves on the SIG 15 (Gerontology) Coordinating Committee, ASHA Convention Planning Committee, and is the State Advocate for Medicare Policy (StAMP) for South Carolina.  Clinical mentoring and education are a professional focus for Dr. Heape, and this past year she co-founded the SCSHA Leadership Development Program as well as a Clinical Fellow mentoring program for her company.  She has a passion for evidence-based practice and clinical research, and mentors graduate and doctoral students in their research endeavors.
