Bill Hamilton

Bill Hamilton is sports historian and retired sports information director at South Carolina State University. He assists the Office of Athletic Media Relations with coverage of selected sports and also provides commentary on the SCSU Bulldog Radio Network.

Background

For 50 years, Hamilton has been employed at SC State, holding the position of Information Specialist in the Office of Public Relations. In 1973, he was named the first full-time Sports Information Director, and three years later, he assumed the role until retiring in 2013. Since then, he has continued to serve as a volunteer.

Hamilton's significant contributions have garnered him numerous accolades and recognition. He is a distinguished member of the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame (2002), CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) since 2009, and has received esteemed awards such as the CoSIDA's Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award, Trailblazer Award, and Jake Wade Award. He has also been honored with the Herman Helms Excellence in Journalism Award by the SC Athletic Hall of Fame. Moreover, he holds the prestigious titles of SC State Stellar Alumnus and Distinguished Alumnus.

Throughout his tenure, Hamilton has displayed unwavering dedication and commitment to his profession, leaving a lasting impact on SC State and the field of sports information.
