Mabel Scott

Mabel Scott is acting chair of the Health Sciences Department at South Carolina State University. She also is the university's supervisor for Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) majors and co-sponsor of the HPE Society.

Background

Scott started working at SCSU in the Fall of 2008 as a health and physical education associate professor. She has served on several university and departmental committees. She is the supervisor for physical education majors who are in teacher education. For six years, she served as the academic program coordinator. In 2020, she was promoted to full professorship. In the fall of 2020, she became the acting chair of the Health Sciences Department. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2018 by New Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Research Interests

Her niche is Childhood obesity. From 2011 to 2014, she was awarded a $300,000 grant to research technology's role in reducing obesity in children 8 - 12 years old.
