More About Marcia Davis Taylor

Taylor has been a licensed social worker in the state of South Carolina for 26 years, as well as previously licensed in the state of Maryland.  Her social work experience includes local, state, and national non-profit organizations, as well as numerous organizations serving children and families.

She completed a fellowship with the Maternal and Child Health Training Program at the University of South Carolina and has received specialized training in the areas of women’s health, children’s health, mental health, domestic violence, sexual assault, and individual and group counseling. Taylor is a graduate of the Women of Color Leadership Project, National Women’s Studies Association.

She has served and continues to serve on a variety of boards, commissions, and steering committees, including the Montgomery County Maryland Commission on Children and Youth, Maryland State Department of Education Work Group on School Improvement, South Carolina Department of Mental Health State Planning Council, Board of Directors of the Mental Health Partnership of South Carolina, Health Council of the United Way of the Midlands, and the South Carolina Department of Social Services Workforce Initiative.

Additionally, Taylor has served as a grant peer reviewer for the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), as well as a program peer reviewer for the United Way of the Midlands.  Her professional memberships include the National Association of Social Workers, the Council on Social Work Education, the National Women's Studies Association, and the American Evaluation Association.

She has made conference presentations on the topics of minority women and health disparities, biopolitics and African American women’s bodies, and intersectionality as a method of addressing health disparities among African American women at the following professional conferences:  National Association of Social Workers-SC Annual Symposium, National Women’s Studies Association Annual Conference, and the Southeastern Women’s Studies Association Annual Conference, respectively.
