Matthew Guah

Dr. Matthew Waritay Guah serves as the dean and director of the Master of Business Administration in the College of Business and Information Systems.  With a multifaceted responsibility, he plays a pivotal role in student recruitment, ensuring the scheduling of classes, efficient class administration, and coordinating the prestigious hooding ceremony for the MBA program.

Background

Dr. Guah has been a valued member of the South Carolina State University community since 2014 when he assumed the role of chair for the Business Administration & Information Systems Department. His commitment to academic excellence and leadership led to his appointment as interim MBA director in 2019, further enhancing the success of the MBA program.

Beyond his administrative roles, Dr. Guah's contributions extend to being the faculty athletic representative to NCAA/MEAC from 2017 to 2022, where he played an integral role in promoting student-athletes well-being and ensuring compliance with athletic regulations.

In recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to academic affairs, Dr. Guah served as the acting associate provost for academic affairs from 2016 to 2019, making significant contributions to the university's overall academic mission and success.

Dr. Guah's global perspective is enriched by his experiences at universities in the Netherlands, Austria, Hawaii, and the United Kingdom, allowing him to bring diverse insights and best practices to the SC State community.  His passion for advancing knowledge in academia is evident through his active involvement on editorial boards for several academic journals and his participation as a track chair, session chair, and panelist in numerous international conferences.

Dr. Guah's contributions to the academic community extend to his membership on the African American board at the Commission of Minority Affairs (CMA) since 2015, where he actively advocates for the advancement and empowerment of underrepresented communities.  In recognition of his outstanding leadership and service, Dr. Guah was honored with South Carolina's CMA Leadership Award during the 2021 Black History Month Celebration, further cementing his legacy as a dedicated and influential leader in higher education. 

Research Interests

His research interests are Management Information Systems; Healthcare Systems and Reform Strategy; Project Management. His research also involves Big Data—the next frontier for innovation, competition, and productivity.

He has been married to Evelyn for over 25 years with two grown children. He serves as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and a Parish Council member at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg.
