Ralph Noble

Dr. Ralph Noble is dean of the College of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences at South Carolina State University.

Education

  • B.S. in Agricultural Sciences at Tuskegee University
  • M.S. in Animal Sciences at Tuskegee University
  • Ph.D. in Animal Sciences specializing in Reproductive Physiology from U. Illinois,Champaign-Urbana

Background

Noble joined State in 2022 as associate research director for 1890 Research & Extension . He was named dean of the College of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences in 2023.

His previous employment positions were as animal science program coordinator at Tuskegee University in Alabama; chair of the Department of Animal Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University; and dean of the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology at Fort Valley State University in Georgia.

As an animal scientist specializing in reproductive physiology, he has focused his career on:

  1. Research to resolve challenges of small farmers and food security in the southern U.S., Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.
  2. Mentorship and career counseling of African Americans for student success in higher education.
  3. Studying issues and resolutions to increase profitability and sustainability of limited resource livestock farmers.

Noble has received a number of awards for academic program development, leadership and scholarship in higher education.

Research & Scholarly Activity

Noble’s research interests include the use of reproductive technology to improve profitability and sustainability for small farmers and mentorship and career counseling of youth  in agriculture, especially African American males.

He has taught various classes in agricultural sciences, animal sciences, research and seminars. He enjoys studying and touring the animal world including those who raise them, study them or use them to benefit mankind.
