Department of Family & Consumer Sciences

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Carolina State University is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. The Nutrition and Food Management program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association. The Child Development Learning Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The success in attaining these accreditations is a testament to the high quality of our programs. The department offers undergraduate degrees in three program areas: FCS Education, Nutrition and Food Management, and Family and Consumer Sciences Business, which has three options – Child Development, Fashion Merchandising, and Multidisciplinary.

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Carolina State University prepares students who possess highly marketable skills and are competitive in their chosen areas of specialization. Each student enrolled in a program area is assigned an advisor who works diligently to ensure his/her success. The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences treasures you as its valued customer and cooperatively strives to ensure that your efforts are productive and will result in an earned degree.

Child Development Learning Center

The South Carolina State University Child Development Learning Center (CDLC) is a full day pre-school program, enrolling children between the ages of two and four years old. The only nationally accredited pre-school program in Orangeburg County, the CDLC is licensed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.




FCS Student Organizations

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers students the opportunity to develop their character and leadership capabilities through student organizations. Students are able to interact with various F.C.S. students and professionals on the local, state, national, and international levels. The following organizations are offered through our department.
