AT&T President Speaks at SC State

- SC State will host executive speaker Harry Lightsey III, president of AT&T Services, Inc., Southeast Region, which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. Lightsey’s discussion topic will be, “Leading in Today’s Corporate Environment,” on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at 12:00p.m (noon) in Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium.

As president, Lightsey is responsible for external, legislative and regulatory affairs and compliance with merger commitments.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in Japanese Studies from Princeton University in, Princeton, N.J. and an master of arts from the University of South Carolina School of Law, in Columbia, S.C.

Lightsey previously served as the senior vice-president of Southern Region Legislative and Regulatory Affairs. He began his telecommunications career in 1982, when he joined the Southwestern Bell legal department in St. Louis, Mo. Four years later, it changed to Bell South Corporation. His career at Bell South has included assignments in Atlanta, Ga., Miami, Fla., and Columbia, S.C.

Lightsey has served on a myriad of boards. Some of which include:
• Princeton National Alumni Executive Board
• Board of Trustees of the College of Charleston
• Executive Committee for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce
• Board of Junior Achievement of Georgia

He was also recognized by 1999-2003, S.C. Governor Jim Hodges with the Order of the Palmetto Award, S.C.’s highest civilian recognition, for his work chairing the governor’s task force on moving S.C into the global economy of the 21st century.

Lightsey and his wife Mercy, live in Columbia, S.C., with their two children, Ellen and Ree.
