SC State alumna, Erica Alcox to speak during Biennial Reunion

Erica AlcoxSC State’s department of National Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and the Agriculture Alumni Association will hold a joint biennial reunion celebration beginning Friday, Oct. 24-25, 2008.

 

This year’s reunion entitled, 'Charting Excellence Intentionally,' brings SC State’s Family and Consumer Sciences and Agriculture alumni together to form collaborative partnerships.


The reunion is being held in conjunction with Youth Day 2008. The SC State ‘Bulldogs’ will take on the Hampton University ‘Pirates’ as both teams strive for this year’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship.

“This is a good opportunity for alumni from Family and Consumer Sciences and Agriculture to come together and continue the legacy of the 1890 land grant University mission,” said Dr. Ethel Jones, Family and Consumer Sciences department chairperson.

SC State Alumna, Erica Alcox ’96, is this year’s reunion guest speaker. Alcox currently serves as an educator in the Charlotte, N.C. public school system. She previously served as a Family and Consumer Sciences Curriculum Developer for Chestnut Oaks Middle School in Sumter, S.C.

In 1991, while a student at SC State, Alcox was named Miss Earle Hall. The following year, she was crowned Miss SC State Homecoming. She received her bachelor of science degree in Nutrition and Food Administration from SC State in 1996.

Alcox is an advisor for the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization. She is also a member of the National Education Association.

She has one three year old son, Nicholas Alcox.
