Richard Cannon, Chief Operating Officer of Fatz Café, speaks at SC State

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

SC State will host executive speaker Richard Cannon on Wednesday, Nov.12, 2008 at 12 p.m., in Belcher Hall 4th floor auditorium. Cannon’s discussion topic will be "Starting and Succeeding in Business."

Fatz Café opened in a converted peach shed in Spartanburg, S.C., in November 1988. The idea was to secure a restaurant location that had a reasonably-priced menu, offered ample portions of quality food, and provided upbeat service in a comfortable atmosphere.

Cannon joined Fatz Café Enterprise, Inc. in 1996 as an operating partner. He opened the Hendersonville, N.C. location as the service manager and in 1997 was hired as the operating partner in Greer, S.C.

In 2001, Cannon was appointed director of operations for all restaurants, and in 2006, Cannon was named as the vice president of operations.

Cannon was selected chief operating officer in 2008. The responsibilities of this position include: overseeing all daily operations of restaurants, developing solid management teams, creating high morale within the restaurants and monitoring revenues and financial performance.

Cannon is also the current chairman of the University of South Carolina’s Hotel Restaurant and Service Management (HRSM) School Advisory Board and is involved with the USC’s fundraising and curriculum committees.
