ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will salute the Bulldog football team Sunday at 6 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial center in conjunction with the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision selection show on ESPNU, which can be viewed at the arena. The event is free and open to the public.
The football staff and the members of the 2008 MEAC champion football team will be present, along with school administrators, the Marching 101 Band and cheerleaders to learn the playoff opponent SC State will face and the site of the Bulldogs’ first appearance in the FCS playoffs in 26 years.
First-round pairings and sites have not been determined, but will be announced Sunday during the selection show at 7 p.m. The University has submitted bids to host first-and-second round contests. First-round games will be Nov. 29, with the quarterfinals set for Dec. 6.
Coach Buddy Pough’s team, which clinched the MEAC title last Saturday (Nov. 15) with a 32-0 victory over Morgan State at Baltimore, Md., closes out the regular season Saturday (Nov. 22) against North Carolina A&T in Greensboro. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs, 9-2 and 7-0 in the MEAC, are ranked in all four FCS polls and in the three polls that rank HBCUs only.
