SC State to host 3rd annual Ujimaa Coffeehouse

UjimmaSC State will host 3rd annual Ujimaa Coffeehouse on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Barbara A. Vaughn Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The Ujimaa Coffeehouse is a variety show that features talent of all kind, to include: live music, drumming, dancing, singing, acting and poetry.

“The Ujimaa Coffeehouse will showcase the variety of talent that SC State students have. To be able to host an event that showcase their talent is a phenomenal feeling,” said Delvina Wescott, Ujimaa, program coordinator.

During Ujimaa Coffeehouse there will be vendors that will sell authentic African clothing and style accessories and an African Drum Circle and Dance Workshop that will showcase various African dances and drums. The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. in the Barbara A. Vaughn Fine Arts Recital Hall on campus.

Admission price for the Ujimaa Coffeehouse is $4. Proceeds from the Coffeehouse will assist Ujimaa, with a historical journey to New York City, N.Y., to visit Harlem, N.Y., Broadway play and nationally acclaimed, Apollo Theatre.
