The Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 2nd annual “Run for the Dream” 5k Run and Community Health Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, Apr. 18, 2009 at 9 a.m. at the K.W Green Student Center on the campus of SC State.
“I believe this race represents a movement of young people who recognize and accept the challenge of the “fierce urgency of now,” said Aaron Haire, race director, Run for the Dream 5k. “It is an urgency that calls for positive change and enriching contributions to our University, our community, and the world” he continued.
The race was created in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to inspire and remind people of the greatness that can be achieved in humanity when people come together in love and unity.
The Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. continues to educate the community in the area of health and wellness and expand fundraising efforts in order to make benevolent contributions to community programs and undergraduate scholarships.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds for local community charities. The event will include radio broadcast, refreshments, and a community health fair.

Participants who register before Wednesday, Mar. 18, 2009 will receive a t-shirt. Prizes and give a ways will be awarded to top finishing runners according to various age categories.
“It is our goal to be catalyst of positive change for humanity and leave a legacy which embodies true brother and sisterhood; all of which were visions Dr. King dedicated his life to,” said Aaron Haire, race director, Run for the Dream5k.
