SC State’s Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will host the GAME-POINT! charity basketball tournament on the campus of SC State on Saturday, Apr.18, 2009 at the basketball court, adjacent from Mitchell’s residential hall and Sunday, Apr.19, 2009 at 1 p.m. in Smith Hammond Memorial Center.
The purpose of GAME-POINT! is to raise funds for community centers and after school programs in the local Orangeburg Community. It is evident that due to a lack of government funding, many after school programs are being cut. To gain support and participation from local residents and business of the greater Orangeburg Community GAME-POINT! was initiated.
“Knowing how society can place many distractions in our path towards success, we understand the importance of having the opportunity to participate in positive extracurricular activities; therefore Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc decided to institute GAME-POINT!, as a way of giving back to the local youth,” said Demetrious McClammy, project coordinator for GAME-POINT!
The Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc would like to challenge the Orangeburg Community to become proactive in building a brighter future for our youth and assistance in spreading the word about this positive endeavor geared towards education.
“We were inspired to create GAME-POINT! to help raise money for those youths in need of after school programs to keep them off the streets and thus providing a brighter future,” said Quincy Mack, president of Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
