SC State’s Toastmasters will host an interest meeting for students on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium.
Toastmasters is an educational organization designed to help members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. The international organization, which began in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, Calif., has progressed into a world leader, helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. SC State’s Toastmasters organization is a part of the international network of more than 11,500 clubs with nearly 250,000 members that meet in 92 countries around the world.
“SC State’s Toastmasters will provide experiences supported by the international organization and its mission to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth," says Dr. Ann Winstead, program director of SC State’s Executive Speaker Series.
During meetings, members will give speeches and will be evaluated by their peers. Through the self-paced program, members are able to choose their own speech topics, enhanced by receiving friendly advice and support from other attendees.
SC State Toastmasters’ meetings will be held every first and third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium.
