SC State University will host executive speaker William B. Timmerman, chairman, president and CEO of SCANA Corporation in Columbia, S.C. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at noon in Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium.
Timmerman’s topic will be: “The Business of Energy in the New Economy.”
In 1997, Timmerman became chairman, president and CEO of SCANA, a Fortune 500, energy-based holding company with $11 billion in assets. Its subsidiaries and affiliates are involved in the generation and sale of electricity, as well as in the purchase, sale, and transportation of natural gas to wholesale and retail customers in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. SCANA also engages in other energy related businesses and provides fiber optic communications.
In addition to director of SCANA, Timmerman serves on the board of directors of Preholdings, Inc., the Palmetto Business Forum, Fuqua School – Duke University, Nuclear Electric Insurance, Ltd., and Palmetto Institute Board. He previously served on the board of directors of PowerTel, Inc., SouthernNet/TelecomUSA, ITC DeltaCom, Benedict College, South Carolina Ports Authority, Wachovia Bank – South Carolina, Palmetto Seed Corporation and Liberty Corporation. Timmerman also served as chairman of the South Carolina Research Authority.
Timmerman is a 1968 graduate of Duke University in Durham, N.C. with a bachelor’s degree in Public Accounting. He is a 1990 graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in Boston, Mass. Timmerman is a certified public accountant and an alumnus of Leadership South Carolina.
Timmerman is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the University of South Carolina (USC) in Columbia, S.C. and served four years of enlisted service in the United States Navy.
