Dr. Stefan Montgomery to Speak at Lunch and Learn Training Session

Dr. MontgomeryThe Disability Enhancement Program at SC State University will host a “Lunch and Learn” Training Session at noon on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009. The session will be held in the Barbara A. Vaughan Recital Hall, located on the campus of SC State.


An initiative of the Disability Enhancement Program at SC State, the “Lunch and Learn” Training Session is designed to increase the awareness and support for faculty, staff and administrators as they meet the academic needs of students with disabilities. The Program assists with the development, training and technical assistance of students, along with providing valuable and resourceful teaching methods to enhance student achievement.


The speaker for the “Lunch and Learn” Training Session will be Dr. Stefan Montgomery, Family & Sports Medicine physician.


Montgomery’s discussion topic will be: “Assisting Athletes with Disabilities.”


Montgomery operates a solo medical practice in Orangeburg, S.C. He also serves as a sports medicine consultant for local physicians, and is the primary physician for Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School and SC State football players.


Prior to opening his practice, Montgomery completed the Family Medical Residency Program with the Baton Rouge General Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La., and the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program with the Methodist Hospital of Dallas in Dallas, Texas.


Montgomery also provides volunteer medical services for various community events to include boxing and golf tournaments, marathon races, high school all-star games, taekwondo championships and training academies.


He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in biology from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., and a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine in Columbia, S.C.  Montgomery is certified in athletic training and family medicine and holds medical licenses in South Carolina and Louisiana.


Montgomery is a member of the South Carolina and American Medical Association, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
