What:              Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration


When:            Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at 7 p.m.


Where:          Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium located on the campus of SC State University.


Why:             The Office of Student Life and Leadership is hosting this event in order to create awareness about King’s efforts during the Civil Rights Era. King led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped establish the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president. King's efforts also led to the 1963 March on Washington in Washington, D.C., where he delivered his famous “I Have a Dream" speech. King raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history.
