President and CEO of Top Gunn & Associates to Speak During SC State's Executive Speaker Series

Anton GunnSC State University will host executive speaker Anton Gunn, South Carolina House District 79 Representative and president and CEO of Top Gunn & Associates, during the Executive Speaker Series (ESS).

The event will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at noon in the Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium. Gunn’s topic will be: The Audacity of Leadership."

Gunn’s career spans more than a decade of conducting grassroots, community-driven political leadership development work. After beginning his career as an ex-college football player turned community organizer, Gunn reached the highest levels of leadership in politics and organizational management. He has used his skills and experience to become one of the strongest voices for leadership, empowerment and change in America.

Gunn has worked with leadership executives in education, health care, economic development and the telecommunications industries. Additionally, he has provided assistance to businesses, local government agencies, state leaders and President Barack Obama.  

In addition to being an author, speaker and leadership expert, Gunn is also a public servant. He is the first African American leader in history to represent South Carolina House District 79 (Richland and Kershaw Counties). Gunn is the author of a new book entitled “The Audacity of Leadership,” a practical guide designed to help the development of better leaders in the world.

In 2006, Gunn was also recognized by the Southern Rural Development Initiative as one of the top 10 young leaders in the south. Gunn has been featured in The State Newspaper, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and Time Magazine. He also has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN and FOX News.

Gunn graduated from the University of South Carolina (USC) in Columbia, S.C., with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in social work.
