SC State Alumnus, Gary Carroway Addresses Business Students During Executive Speaker Series

SC State University alumnus and business development sales manager for the South Carolina District of the United Parcel Service (UPS), Gary Carroway, ’85, will speak during the University’s Executive Speaker Series (ESS).


The event will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at noon in the Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium.


Carroway’s topic will be: The Business of Transporting Goods Around the World - the UPS Brand."


Carroway has served in various roles for more than 23 years at UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company and a leading global provider of specialized transportation and logistics services. These roles include marketing coordinator, sales support center manager, and sales operation manager.


In his current role, as development sales manager, Carroway is responsible for developing business relationships with development alliances throughout the Southeastern region and beyond, working closely with other UPS subsidiaries in creating concrete value propositions, and collaborating with the director of sales in strategic planning for formalizing district sales and service strategies. Additionally, Carroway develops staffing requirements, allocates resources for UPS’ sales area and conducts reviews with the sales team to monitor sales processes and performance results.


Carroway has served on a number of advisory boards and organizations throughout the Columbia, S.C. area. Among those include the Richland-Lexington District Five School Improvement Council (SIC), the Columbia, S.C. Chamber of Commerce, Export Consortium, United Way of the Midlands, Leadership Columbia, SC State University Columbia Alumni Chapter, and delegate for the Richland County Democratic Party.  A member of Brookland Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., Carroway serves on the Board of Deacons and is a member of the Homeless and Brotherhood Ministries.


Carroway attended Darlington County public schools and graduated from Hartsville High School in 1981.  He then attended SC State, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. At SC State, he became a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. 


Carroway is married to the former Roberta Robinson. They have two daughters, Raven (18) and Rianna (15).
