The Disability Enhancement Program at SC State University will conduct a “Lunch and Learn” Training Session at noon on Thursday, April 22, 2010. The session will be held in the Staley Hall Auditorium.
The “Lunch and Learn” Training Session is an initiative of the Disability Enhancement Program at SC State, which is designed to increase the awareness and support of faculty, staff and administrators, to the academic needs of students with disabilities. The program assists with the development, training and technical assistance of students, along with providing valuable and resourceful teaching methods to enhance student achievement.
Fred Manning, partnering attorney with Fisher and Phillips Law Firm in Columbia, S.C., will serve as guest facilitator of the training session. Manning’s topic will be: “Disability Law.”
Manning has extensive experience litigating employment law matters involving civil rights, contracts and wrongful termination claims. He regularly provides advice and assistance to employers regarding the drafting and enforcement of restrictive covenants, employment contracts and corrective action. Manning has assisted employers throughout the United States in remaining non-union by providing advice on employee relations, responding to unfair labor practice charges and participating in representation campaigns. Additionally, he has extensive experience in representing private colleges and universities in matters relating to employment, and faculty and student issues.
Manning obtained his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., a master’s degree in modern history from Oxford University in Oxford, England and his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Law in Columbia, S.C.
Manning is the author of the law journal, "Public Policy Exception Open to Possible Expansion in Employment At-Will Situations." While in law school, Manning served as the associate editor-in-chief for the “South Carolina Law Review,” a legal journal produced by USC’s School of Law. Manning currently serves on the board of directors for the South Carolina National Kidney Foundation and the Columbia Council of the Navy League.
