SC State University’s “Marching 101” band coined as “the best band in the land,” along with five other Historically Black Colleges and Universities, (HBCU’s) will participate in the first annual Sprite Queen City Battle of the Bands. The event will take place on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 7 p.m. The invitational showcase will be held at the Charlotte Memorial Stadium, 310 N. Kings Dr. in Charlotte, N.C.
In addition to the “Marching 101,” the following five bands will participate this year: Florida A&M University’s “Marching 100,” Johnson C. Smith University’s “Marching Golden Bulls,” North Carolina A&T State University’s “Blue and Gold Marching Machine,” North Carolina Central University’s “Marching Sound Machine” and Shaw University’s, “Platinum Sound Marching Band.” The band competition will also feature drum lines from schools in Charlotte, such as West Charlotte High School and Harding University High. Bragging rights and money for scholarships will be on the line as the talented band members display their school’s dynamic music programs during show-stopping performances.
Tickets for the Sprite Queen City Battle of the Bands can be purchased for $15 in advance at www.ez-tixx.com. Tickets will also be on sale the day of the event for $20 at the stadium’s box office.
