Last semester’s staunch participation from faculty, staff and students has encouraged Chief Michael Bartley to reinforce the SC State Police Department’s “Chat with the Chief” initiative. The program was initially implemented as one aspect to reducing crime, and to create a harmonious relationship between the police department and the student body. “This program will make students more aware and will create a partnership between the University family and the University police department,” states Bartley. With this initiative, “we can have open dialogue about certain topics,” says Bartley.
Topics last semester ranged from safety tips and security on the University campus, to identity theft and crime prevention. Set as an open forum, all students, faculty and staff are invited to attend this semester’s first “Chat with the Chief.” Starting Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, “Chat with the Chief” will take place every first and third Wednesday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Garnet and Blue Room of the K.W. Green Student Center.
“Hopefully through these open forums, we can make a difference in some of the things that happen here on our campus,” states Bartley. For more information on “Chat with the Chief” and other upcoming initiatives, contact the SC State University Police Department at (803) 536-7188.
