SC State University’s Division of Student Affairs will host “Parents Weekend.” “’Parents Weekend’ is specifically designed for parents to ask questions to our experts on campus,” said Dr. Charles N. Smith, vice president for Student Affairs. “Parents Weekend” will take place on Friday, October 15, 2010 through Sunday, October 17, 2010.
“This weekend will be overflowing with fun-filled activities and informational sessions that will fully equip parents with knowledge so that they will be able to understand the processes of how certain elements are handled at SC State University,” said Marilyn Scott, ombudsman for the Division of Student Affairs.
On Friday, October 15, 2010 all parents that are registered for the weekend must pick up their packets from Andrew Hugine, Jr. Suites and the Presidents’ STATE Room at 2 p.m. Parents will have the pleasure of viewing our wonderful campus during the Bulldog tour. Departure will take place from the Presidents’ STATE Room at 3 p.m.
Parents will also have the opportunity to hear how campus security is keeping our students safe and secure while they are housed on campus. Other departments will also be featured, such as: Judicial Affairs, Residence Life and Housing, Career Center and Brooks Health Center. During the Student Affairs Open House, parents may ask questions to these respective departments. Parents will also be able to meet the deans; Student Government Association (SGA); head football coach, Buddy Pough; Miss SC State University, Ashley Graham; and Mr. Garnet and Blue, Benjamin Jackson. This event will take place at 5 p.m. in the J. W. Washington Dining Hall.
On Saturday, October 16, 2010, you will hear from the University President, Dr. George E. Cooper, as he presents his address, “State of the University,” at 9 a.m. in the K.W. Green Student Center. During his address, parents will hear Cooper speak about some of the initiatives that he has planned for this academic fiscal year. Afterwards, “Get up for the Bulldogs,” with the SC State University Cheerleaders.
The SC State Division of Student Affairs will also host “Student Affairs 101.” During Student Affairs 101, parents will engage in financial aid sessions. The Office of Financial Aid will educate parents on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.) At noon, there will be a pregame mixer at the K.W. Green Student Center. Here, students may speak with Smith. At 1:30 p.m., the SC State University Bulldogs will take on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. After the game, parents can engage in the “All American Bulldog Tailgate,” with soft melodies and great food at 6 p.m. in the K.W. Green Student Center.
Finally, the Division of Student Affairs will present a Farewell Breakfast for all parents at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2010 in the J.W. Washington Dining Hall.
