Opening the Spring 2011 Executive Speaker Series (ESS) at SC State University is Chakisse Newton, founder and president of Cardinal Consulting, LLC in Columbia, S.C. Newton will speak to business students on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 at noon in the Belcher Hall Floor Auditorium. She will speak on the topic: “Networking: A Key to Business and Personal Success.”
SC State’s Executive Speaker Series (ESS) is a partnership between participating companies, government, professional organizations, private and public community sectors and the business program, designed to support the college’s mission to provide a quality management education and leadership by producing competitive graduates for a global and diverse environment. The ESS was implemented in 1996 as a part of the core curriculum of the School of Business, and a component of the Leadership and Professional Development Program, a required program for all business majors.
As president and CEO of Cardinal Consulting, Newton helps organizations and individuals develop, cultivate and maintain profitable relationships.She is a dynamic and engaging presenter, known for her communication and influencing skills and ability to teach practical techniques to achieve both business and personal growth.
Newton has experience both in the executive office and the field. For more than 10 years, Newton led a variety of local, national and global marketing efforts. She has also served as the director of national sales for a consulting organization and an outside sales representative. She has seen firsthand how world-class organizations grow, innovate, and interact with clients. Because of her insights working in the similar, yet very different areas of sales and marketing, she can quickly spot bottlenecks, tweak strategies, and improve execution to achieve desired business outcomes.
Newton is an award-winning speaker and has presented to and provided training for groups across the country on topics including business results improvement, improving effectiveness and individual motivation. In both 2005 and 2009, Toastmasters International recognized Newton as one of the 10 best speakers in the world.
Committed to life-long learning and personal professional development, Newton has studied with renowned industry leaders including Alan Weiss, the best-selling author whom the New York Post calls “one of the most highly regarded independent consultants in America,” and award-winning international keynote speaker and former National Security Agency President Patricia Fripp. Additionally, Newton is a graduate of Weiss’ Million Dollar Consulting College (MDCC), a program focused on creating excellence in consulting. She is one of only several hundred MDCC graduates worldwide.
Utilizing her experience as a speaker and sales and marketing expert, Newton specializes in business development strategy, branding, communications and client relationships. Her services include consulting, coaching and conducting keynote speeches and workshops.
Newton has lived and worked in Europe and South America. She speaks fluent Spanish, basic Portuguese and some French. She graduated summa cum laude from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations.
