During the Feb. 23, 2011 Executive Speaker Series (ESS), Kevin Brown, vice president and chief procurement officer of Dell, Inc., will discuss how the business world has dramatically changed. “It is now a global playing field, with competition at every level and for every position,” says Brown.
As someone who is competing in the global arena every day, Brown will share his insights on steps students can take to “Prepare to Compete on the World Stage.” The event will be held at noon in Belcher Hall, fourth floor auditorium.
In his role as vice president and chief procurement officer of Dell, Inc., Brown oversees the company’s strategic procurement and supply chain related initiatives. His primary goals are to help propel Dell’s growth and to enhance Dell’s reputation as a leading global systems and services company.
Brown joined Dell in 1998 and has served in leadership roles for the company’s Product Group and Worldwide Procurement organizations. He also helped lead manufacturing operations at Dell’s Penang, Malaysia, Nashville, Tenn. and Austin, Texas manufacturing and fulfillment facilities. Prior to joining Dell, Brown worked for more than a decade in the U.S. shipbuilding industry.
Brown holds leadership positions with several philanthropic, civic and non-profit organizations. In 2007, he was named to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Board of Directors. He has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s in engineering management from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
