SC State University’s Career Center will host Dr. Jan Jasper on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at 3 p.m.in Belcher Hall Suite, 250.
Jasper, who has a strong interest in personal financial planning and minority financial literacy, will talk about various careers and key aspects of successful financial planning, during his workshop. Jasper is both a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC®), having received his Series 7, 63, 65 and insurance licenses. Currently volunteering at SC State University, Jasper has previously served as a faculty member at Texas Tech, Prairie View A&M, Elizabeth City State, and Winston-Salem Universities, where he either introduced or taught different personal financial planning courses at the graduate or undergraduate level. Additionally, Jasper has collaborated with Texas Tech University (which has built the best personal financial planning program in the country) over the past ten years to build academic capacity and programs in the area of personal financial planning at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Jasper holds an undergraduate degree in finance from Howard University (summa cum laude), an MBA in finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
Originally from Milwaukee, Wis., Jasper has lived in both Tanzania and Texas for many years. He and his wife, Dr. Cynthia Warrick, interim president of South Carolina State University, have four adult children.
