| Description of Duties: | |||||
The Associate Vice President for Research and Executive Director of 1890 Research and Extension will report directly to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. The core function of the position is leadership and management of the 1890 research and cooperative extension programs of the University, serving as the extension director. Responsibilities include interacting with campus administrators, faculty, students, staff, and the general public to help ensure that the land-grant mission of the university is supported in the areas of teaching, research and service through undergraduate and graduate studies, research contracts and grants and service learning. As extension director, the Associate Vice President will assist the Vice President for Research and Economic Development in the fiscal management of research and extension funds from federal and state sources and oversight of the all research and extension programs. |

| Qualifications: | |||||
An earned doctorate in an agriculture or related discipline; a record of teaching, research, scholarship, and creativity to support a tenured faculty appointment in a university academic department; three or more years of successful academic administrative experience; experience at the committee level or above in the design and delivery of academic programs at the undergraduate/graduate levels; knowledge of procedures and requirements relating to evaluating, planning, organizing, and administering educational and service delivery programs to limited-resource rural and urban communities; direct experience in grant administration that reflects a thorough understanding of federal and other sponsor regulations and knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies related to the protection of human subjects, animal welfare, conflict of interest and scientific misconduct; knowledge of the philosophy and mission of an 1890 land grant university; a proven ability to write proposals for external funding in keeping with one or more of the research priority areas which include agriculture production systems, environment, health and human nutrition, community and rural economic development and rural life and rural opportunities. The successful candidate would be expected to build alliances with business, government, and cultural entities that lead to increased resources for the University and enhancing its collaborative and partnership efforts. |
