SC State Students Serve on Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers Panel

SC State’s I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium(The Stanback) director, Ellen Zisholtz and five SC State Stanback Museum interns, including Quenton Atterberry, Harriett Hilton, Eric Smith, Jessica Teasdell and Dervedia Thomas, recently served on the 2010 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers’ (Southern Circuit) panel in Atlanta, Ga.

For the past three years, The Stanback’s interns have been the only students to serve on the Southern Circuit panel where they participate in the selection of films that are shown on tour.  The selection of films is an important process in preparation for the 2010-2011 Southern Circuit.

Southern Circuit provides communities across the South with a tour of highly-talented independent filmmakers. As film and media production tools become more accessible and affordable, increasing numbers of filmmakers are using this opportunity to express their creative vision.  Audiences have viewed more than 200 films and have engaged filmmakers in post-screening discussions in more than 44 communities across the Southern region of the United States. It is the nation’s only regional tour of independent filmmakers. Southern Circuit also provides communities with an interactive way of experiencing independent film. The tour takes the audience away from their televisions, DVD players and computers to connect them with independent filmmakers, and encourages them to speak with one another about the films and their meanings.  Southern Circuit transforms watching independent films from a solitary experience into a mutual one.
