The South Carolina State softball team, in action against Morgan State Saturday won the second game of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader 6-0 to earn a split with the visitors. The Lady Bulldogs lost the opener 10-7.
In the first game, SC State outhit Morgan 11-7, however the host committed six errors. The Lady Bulldogs got three hits from outfielder Keyona Duncan, and two hits each from catcher Tifanie Lewis and outfielder Cidney Chester. Lewis had three runs batted in and Chester two for Coach Antonio Smalls’ team. Morgan’s Ashley Vasquez and Megan Jimenez combined for four hits and six RBIs in the contest in which Lady Bear Carolyn Howard got the win, and SC State’s Janae Palmer took the loss.
In the second contest, pitcher Channell Thompson recorded a no-hitter as SC State climbed to 1-3 on the season.
Chester banged out four hits and Thompson and Duncan two each for the Lady Bulldogs. Lewis had one hit and two RBIs. Portia Boddicker took the loss for the visitors.
SC State returns to action today when its hosts Hampton in another MEAC doubleheader, beginning at 12 noon.
