Gov. Nikki Haley has appointed Walter F. Johnson, III to the South Carolina State University Board of Trustees, replacing former Gov. Mark Sanford’s appointee Dr. Jackie Epps.
Johnson is currently the chairman of Eagle Group International, Inc., a full-service consulting firm with major civilian, federal and international practices. Within 10 years, Johnson led Eagle Group International, Inc. from a start up operation to a successful enterprise with over $150 million dollars in yearly revenue, with over 1500 personnel scattered over 30 different states and seven foreign countries.
A graduate of West Virginia State College, earning his master’s degree at the University of Missouri, Johnson also previously served as a senior vice president with the American Hospital Association (AHA), and in the early 90’s, he was president and chief executive officer of Diversity in Health Management, a foundation-like organization responsible for helping increase the number of minority managers in health services and enhancing their advancement.
Johnson, who served in the military for 27 years where he attained the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, the highest grade that can be achieved in the Medical Service Corps, is also a member of many organizations, to include: Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; Georgetown Marine Institute Board; Georgetown County Economic Development Commission; West Virginia State University Foundation Board; Georgetown County Mentor Board; Georgetown Chamber of Commerce Board; Teach My People Board; St. James Santee Health Center, Inc.; Brook Green Garden Board; the Clara Barton Society and Georgetown Red Cross.
Board of Trustees chairman, Jonathan Pinson, congratulates Johnson on his new appointment. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I welcome Mr. Johnson to the Board and we look forward to working with him. He is joining the Board at a strategic time and his leadership will be very useful as we move the University forward,” says Pinson. Pinson also thanks Gov. Hailey on her insight for such a great addition to the board. He also thanks Dr. Jackie Epps for his service.
