SC State University’s Department of Music Hosts 2011 Wind Ensemble Concert

Who: SC State University’s Department of Music will host its annual Wind Ensemble Concert. Special guest performers include Scotty Barnhart, principal trumpeter for the Count Basie Orchestra, along with Roland Haynes. David Haynes, who performs with the group Arrested Development, and Johnny Murdaugh, Jr. will also perform.
What: The annual Wind Ensemble Concert will include various genres of music from classical to jazz, music transcribed from orchestral scores, as well as music written for the “Wind Band.” The Wind Ensemble also performs music ranging from medium advanced to advanced wind compositions. Selections from the Wind Ensemble Concert will include: “The American Jazz Suite” by Allen Vizzut, “Four Flew Over the Hornet’s Nest” by Nanthan Tanouye featuring South Carolina’s own Johhny Murdaugh and David Haynes. Roland Haynes and Coleman Sistrunk will perform an edition of “Blue Shades” by Fran Ticheli, “October” by Erica Whitfield, “Manzoni Requiem” by Giuseppe Verdi and “The George Washington Bicentennial March” by John Phillip Sousa.
When: This annual event will take place on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Where: The event will take place at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium on the SC State campus.
