Felton Girls Volleyball team achieved its first win at the Orangeburg Middle School Volleyball League Championship
The tournament, held last October, gave the  Felton Jr. Bulldogs the chance to “bring the heat” against their opponent, the Orangeburg Preparatory School Indians. The Jr. Bulldogs managed to end their season with an undefeated 16-0 record.

Middle-hitter, Georgriana “G.G.” Goodwin, reflected on the volleyball team’s road to victory.

“With the help of Coach McCants, we prepared, practiced and worked hard. During the [championship] game, I felt nervous; but, I still wanted to win so I played hard because I didn’t want to lose,” said Goodwin.

The victory for Goodwin and several of her teammates, however was bitter sweet.

“For most of us, this was our last game as eighth graders at Felton,” said Goodwin.

The teams in the middle school volleyball league include: Branchville Middle School, Bethune-Bowman Middle School, William J. Clark Middle School, Edisto Middle School, Felton Laboratory School, Holly Hill Academy, Robert E. Howard Middle School, North Middle School and Orangeburg Preparatory. The tournament was the first of its kind for the region.

“I could not have asked for a better group of girls. Every team we played against this year said it was evident that these girls spent a lot of time preparing,” said McCants.

And that they did, noted McCants, who said the team members trained in the off-season with club volleyball.

Coach McCants and the volleyball team members hope they have inspired a legacy of winning seasons for the Felton Girls Volleyball team.

Tryouts for the upcoming season will be held fall 2014.
