Lady Bulldog Tennis Team Downs East Carolina; Men in Action Friday

ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State women’s tennis team, Thursday, rebounded from Wednesday’s 3-4 loss to top-60 ranked Boston University with a 4-3 triumph over East Carolina.

The two teams split the singles matches, but it was Coach Hardeep Judge team’s victory in the all-important doubles that was the difference on Thursday at the SC State Tennis Complex as the Lady Bulldogs climbed to 14-4.

In doubles, the Lady Bulldogs’ Mirian Cruz and Marcela Rodezno defeated Anca Dumitru and Brooke Walter 8-0 at number 1, while Gisel Brito and Vesna Popac at number 2 won 8-4 over ECU’s Mireia Gol and Luiza Borges. The Lady Pirates won at number 3 with Varinia Soler and Hannah Priest defeating Iveta Blodniece and Yana Lytkina 8-3.

In singles, SC State won at the number 1, 2 and 3 positions as Rodezno defeated ECU’s Anca Dumitru 7-5, 6-1; Rodezno won over Borges 6-1, 6-2; and Brito defeated Gol 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Pirates victories came at the number 4-6 spots, with Walter defeating Popac 6-3, 6-7, 64; Soler defeating Blodniece 6-0, 3-6, 6-3; and Priest defeating Lytkina 6-0, 6-3.

The SC State men return to the court on Friday when they host Auburn-Montgomery in a 1 p.m. match. The Bulldogs are 10-4 on the season.
