SC State completes second day of Spring Drills

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State completed its second day of spring football drills Wednesday with another session under the lights. The Bulldogs continued to focus on installation and tempo, according to head coach Buddy Pough, whose team was without senior quarterback Cleve McCoy, sidelined with a flu-like illness. The third-year starter may be out until Monday, Pough noted.

Meanwhile, Bryan Hardy, who last season shared the backup signal-calling duties with Russell Hemby, who has since been shifted to defense, had to shoulder the load Tuesday.

“Tonight’s workout was similar to the kinds of things we did on Tuesday,” Pough said. “We continued our installation to make sure the players get a feel for the new alignments.

“It was a little tough at times, having only one quarterback,” continued Pough. “But, all-in-all, we seem to be moving in the right direction. The main things we are trying achieve in these early workouts are to install our new packages and establish tempo. We are also working hard on fundamentals, especially tackling.”

SC State will take Thursday off and return to the field Friday at approximately 4:50 p.m., then conduct its first scrimmage Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
