SC State Conducts Lively Drill Wednesday

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State conducted its second straight workout under the lights Wednesday and the drill was very spirited with the defense showing the way early, according to Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough.

Pough said the was especially impressed with his defense, which handled the offense pretty easily in the early going, although the offensive unit did bounce back to finish strong in an approximately 35-minute scrimmage at the end of Wednesday’s drill.

“We got some good things accomplished,” Pough said. “I think we are a little bit farther along on defense than I thought. We have really demonstrated some identity on that side of the football and have kind of established a will of sorts.

“The defense beat up on the offense for most of the night,” he continued, “but I was happy to see the offense get going late and evened things up a bit. But, we really need to establish some personality on offense. We don’t have (RB DeShawn) Baker over there anymore and miss his leadership a bit. But, I feel that we will get things going. We have a lot of talent on offense obviously, and I think it will begin to show.”

The Bulldogs will take Thursday off and resume drills on Friday at 4:30 p.m, then conduct a scrimmage Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
