WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (8-23) rallied for a 5-4 victory in the second game to complete a doubleheader sweep of the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs, Saturday. After jumping out to an early 4-1 lead, the Lady Rams gave up three sixth inning runs, but came through with come clutch hitting to pull out the win. The host Lady Rams won the first game 7-4.
WSSU opened the scoring in the second contest with a pair of runs in the second inning when sophomore first baseman Leslie Hollis took advantage of an SCSU wild pitch, followed by an RBI single by sophomore pitcher Amber Shore. After allowing an SCSU run in the third inning, the Lady Rams kept on top of the game scoring a fourth inning run on another SCSU wild pitch that kept the Lady Rams on top, 4-1.
South Carolina State would charge back into the game scoring three sixth inning runs and tying the game, 4-4, but the WSSU defense would not relinquish the lead. The effort set the stage for a dramatic seventh inning for the Lady Rams, who would pull out the win on an RBI single by WSSU freshman shortstop Whitney Hall. Senior catcher L’Tisha Bell scored the winning run.
The Lady Rams hit turned up the heat knocking out nine hits and scoring three earned runs in the game. Sophomore pitcher Amber Shore had the big day once again, going 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI, while sophomore first baseman Leslie Hollis and senior catcher L’Tisha Bell each scored two runs in the game.
