ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State returned to the gridiron Tuesday for the first time since Saturday’s scrimmage, conducting a two-hour plus workout under the lights.
Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough noted that his squad had just six more practice dates and that his team still had a lot of work to do. The Bulldog mentor added, however, that he was proud of the effort so far of his players.
“Things (spring drills) are winding down,” Pough said. “We have conducted nine practices and have just six left. We have a great deal of work left to do.
“It’s important that we continue to get a little better each day,” he continued. “I have noticed that things are beginning to pull together, especially in our run game coordination.
“The defense seems to be catching on pretty well, but we do need to become more consistent in our execution and must get better fundamentally. But, one thing has been a constant around here – enthusiasm. And, I’m very proud of that fact that our players come out and work hard every day.
Pough said that he and his staff had watched the film from Saturday’s scrimmage and came away with a bit of a “mixed bag” of sorts.
“We saw some good things and some not so good things,” Pough said. “But, most of the players are hustling. They must continue to show improvement and keep trying to get better so we can put a good football team on the field this fall.”
The Bulldogs will workout Wednesday under the lights again – 8 p.m. – then take Thursday off before returning to the field Friday afternoon at 4:50.
