ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State, which concludes spring football drills with its annual Garnet and Blue game next Saturday (Apr. 14), conducted an approximately 75-minute controlled scrimmage Friday.
Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough said Friday’s workout enabled the staff to observe most of the personnel the team would be relying on this fall when SC State plays its most challenging schedule ever, a slate that includes contests against two major universities – Air Force and South Carolina -- for the first time.
“We used the scrimmage to continue to develop and build some consistency on both sides of the football,” Pough said. “We got in a good bit of work for all of our personnel, with the number one offense going against the two defense, and the one defense versus the two offense.
“Both teams executed well at times,” continued Pough. “I think our players now have a good feel for what we are trying to accomplish.”
The Bulldogs will take an Easter break before resuming drills Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. SC State will also work out Wednesday at 8 p.m., and on Friday at a time to be announced.
