SC State Practice Report

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State, just days away from completing spring workouts, held a two-hour session under the lights Tuesday. The Bulldog offense was sluggish, however the defense and kicking game were pretty solid, according to head coach Buddy Pough.

“We didn’t get much done on offense,” said Pough, “We kind of went through the motions, had trouble running the ball and blocking. You have days like that but it’s getting close to the end now, and we need to be executing with more consistency.

“The defense,” he continued “had a pretty good night. The players moved around well and showed a lot of enthusiasm. And, we also saw some good things in our kicking game.

“Stephen Grantham (back after missing all of last season) had a real good night kicking field goals and Aaron Haire showed signs that he is coming around in the punting game. And, that’s encouraging.

“We will be back at things tomorrow night and I think the offense will show some pride and come back strong.”

Following Wednesday’s practice under the lights, the Bulldogs will take Thursday off, conduct an early morning practice Friday, then culminate drills Saturday with the annual Garnet and Blue spring game, beginning at 1 p.m.
