ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will honor its 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s championship tennis team with an “NCAA Sendoff” Wednesday (May 9) at 1 p.m. at the Student Center Plaza on the campus.
The Lady Bulldogs, who captured their third straight MEAC crown, will represent the university in opening round action of the NCAA Tennis Championship Saturday and Sunday (May 12-13) at the University of Georgia in Athens. It will mark the third consecutive year the SC State women have played in the postseason.
SC State, 21-5 and ranked 75th nationally in the FILA Intercollegiate Tennis poll, will meet the host Georgia Lady Bulldogs, ranked number 2, at 10 a.m. Saturday. Auburn (#31) and N.C. State (#39) will meet in the second game at 1 p.m. The winners will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Regional title and a chance to advance.
In attendance, among others, will be members of the tennis team, head tennis coach Hardeep Judge who captured the 2007 MEAC Men’s Coach of the Year honors, Bulldog athletics director Charlene Johnson, SC State president Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., and Orangeburg mayor Paul Miller. The event is open to the public.
