Former SC State Football Standout to Play in ArenaBowl XXI Sunday

Orangeburg, SC – Former South Carolina State defensive standout Ken Jones will be on the roster of the Columbus Destroyers (Ohio) of the Arena Football League Sunday when they take on the San Jose (Calif.) SaberCats in ArenaBowl XXI at 3 p.m. in the New Orleans Arena.

The contest will be televised live by ESPN on ABC HD, Sirius Radio – Channel 123.

Jones, an Augusta, Georgia native, was an All-Conference defensive lineman for the Bulldogs doing his playing days (1999-2002) at SC State. During his senior season, Jones was the Bulldog starter at defensive end and also played tight end when needed that season.

He is one of several former SC State standouts to continue their careers in the Arena League and the first to make it to the league’s championship game. Jones played both defensive line and offensive line for Columbus.

The Destroyers, who have only a 7-9 overall mark, reached the title contest with upsets over third-seeded Tampa Bay (9-7) 56-55 in the wild-card round, top-seeded Dallas (15-1) 66-59 in the divisional round and second-seeded Georgia 66-56 in the National Conference title game.

The top-seeded SaberCats (13-3) defeated sixth-seeded (Denver) Colorado (8-8) 76-67 in the divisional round and second-seeded Chicago (12-4) 61-49 in the American Conference title contest.
