ORANGEBURG, SC – In a departure from its original schedule, South Carolina State conducted its lone workout of the day Thursday morning and the outcome once again was satisfactory to head coach Buddy Pough.
During the drill, the Bulldogs concentrated on 1-on-1 live technique drills pairing the running backs and tight ends against the linebackers, the wide receivers against the defensive backs and the offensive line against the defensive line. SC State also had a large kicking segment with emphasis on field goals, punting and punt returns.
“We had another very productive practice,” said Pough. “I’m really excited about the strides our team is making.”
On Friday, the Bulldogs will practice twice, however, Pough said that both sessions would probably be shortened to give the allow the quarterbacks to regain their arm strength for Saturday’s 9 a.m. scrimmage which will be a part of the team’s “Meet the Players and Fan Fest.” The scrimmage will be open to the public.
“We think we need to cut back a bit on our throwing,” Pough said. “We will most likely shorten both practices on Friday because our quarterbacks are experiencing a little soreness in their arms from throwing so much.
“We’d like to give them a little break, so our morning practice on Friday will be mostly all run and special teams, which will give our quarterbacks an opportunity to rest their arms and be ready for the scrimmage on Saturday. And, we will probably shorten both drills to about an hour and fifteen minutes.
Friday’s scheduled drills will be at 8:30 a.m. and 7:10 p.m.
