ORANGEBURG – Two members of SC State’s performing arts faculty will present an upcoming faculty recital.
Angela Blalock, soprano, in collaboration with Richard Beckford, piano, will present the recital on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Barbara A. Vaughan Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Center. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
The concert will feature works by Handel, Richard Strauss, Gabriel Fauré and Puccini. Steven Reid, instructor of brass, will accompany the Handel aria Let the bright Seraphim from the oratorio Samson with a brilliant trumpet obbligato.
To connect to the students in her audience, Blalock will sing two songs from the ever-popular Twenty four Italian Songs and Arias from the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries. These will be followed by Au bord de l’eau and Notre Amour, Op. 23, No. 2 by G. Fauré.
The second half of the program features Blalock in her debut performance of The Four Last Songs, by Richard Strauss. Written for soprano in the last years of the composer’s life, the songs draw on the texts of Hermann Hesse and Joseph von Eichendorff.
