Congressman James E. Clyburn and his wife, Emily, will host their second Holiday Gala to benefit the archives and history endowment they have established at South Carolina State University.
The black-tie affair will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at the Marriott in Spartanburg.
"We are very excited about bringing this event to South Carolina's upstate," the congressman said. "I have met with South Carolina State alumni and corporate leaders in the area who were looking for an opportunity to be a part of our efforts to help build a comprehensive archives and history program at our alma mater.
"This year we are bringing this Holiday Gala to them, and I am pleased the community is already responding so positively to this event."
Supporters of the gala include Ogletree Deakins and Michelin.
In Dec. 2005, the Clyburns held the inaugural Holiday Gala in Columbia. The affair featuring actress Phylicia Rashad, recording artist Angie Stone and a hometown operatic talent Kimberly Haynes drew nearly 1,000 attendees and raised $1.3 million.
