Bulldogs and Pirates to be featured on ESPNU
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has added Saturday’s (Oct. 20) South Carolina State at Hampton football game to the conference’s ESPNU television schedule. The game increases the MEAC’s televised football package to eight games for the 2007 season.
The three-time defending MEAC champion Pirates will host the league’s preseason favorite SCSU Bulldogs in the former’s homecoming game at Armstrong Stadium beginning at 2 p.m. The game will be taped delayed and shown Saturday night beginning at 8 p.m. on ESPNU (Channel 160 TWC).
“We are very elated that ESPN decided to add this game to our TV package,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas. “With this game on ESPNU fans will be able to see two outstanding teams as they vie for the conference championship.”
It marks the second consecutive televised contest for Coach Buddy Pough’s team, whose home game against Florida A&M last week was also telecast on a delayed-basis by ESPNU.
The Pirates and Bulldogs have met 13 times before with Hampton holding an 11-2 edge in the series record, however, in last season’s meeting at Orangeburg, SC State prevailed 13-6.
ESPNU, which was launched in 2005, features extensive studio programming and live coverage of games. ESPNU has secured distribution agreements with Charter, Cox, DirecTV(Channel 609), Echostar’s DISH Network (Channel 148), Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner, and Verizon, along with many smaller affiliates, and is close to distribution agreements with others. ESPNU reached 20 million households at the start of the 2007 college football season.
