Dr. Gerald Gonsalves named chair of business administration department

SC State’s College of Business is proud to introduce Dr. Gerald C. Gonsalves as Chair of the Department of Business Administration.

“I believe this is a great opportunity. I am excited to be a part of first generation college students’ lives,” stated Dr. G. Gonsalves.

Dr. Gonsalves obtained a masters of science, in mechanical engineering in 1971 from the University of Louisville located in Louisville, Ky. In 1983, he received his masters of business administration at Xavier University, in Cincinnati, OH. He also received a degree in business administration, with a focus in decision science and information systems at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY in 2002.

Prior to coming to SC State, Gonsalves served as the assistant professor of management information systems and global operations and technology management at the College of Charleston, in Charleston, SC.

Dr. Gonsalves also chaired the faculty curriculum committee at the College of Charleston, where the academic proposals are debated and approved for the university in Charleston, SC.
“My purpose on this campus is to form life-long relationships with the students” stated Dr. Gonsalves.

During his professional career, Dr. Gonsalves published scholarly works in such prestigious journals such as International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Review of Business Research, Information Systems Education Journal, Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives, and Journal of Digital Information.

Gonsalves’ professional affiliations include the Decision Sciences Institute, (DSI) Association for Information Systems, (AIS) and the Association of Information Technology Professional (AITP).

“Dr. Gerald Gonsalves brings an entrepreneurial spirit to our Department of Business Administration that will be contagious among faculty and students,” said Dr. Robert T. Barrett, Dean of the College of Business and Applied Professional Sciences. “His leadership will be critical in our quest to train the next generation of business leaders. We are very happy to have Dr. Gonsalves as our new Department Chair,” added Dr. Barrett.
