Orangeburg, S.C. – SC State continues to monitor this season's impending tropical storms and hurricanes. After assessing the current path, and direction of Tropical Storm Hanna, at this time, SC State will operate as normal. All scheduled events and activities, to include the Hall of Fame Induction, and SC State's home opener football game, will occur as planned.
However, as the University prepares for the possible inclement weather, listed are the following precautions that will be taken according to SC State University's Emergency Management Policy.
If the named storm reaches a category 2 or higher:
- All classes will be cancelled immediately.
- In a voluntary evacuation, students who chose to remain on SC State's campus in the residence halls will be instructed to designated safe areas.
Upon notice of a voluntary campus evacuation, a mandatory sign-out process will be implemented for all students who are departing SC State's campus (to include the destination the student is traveling). There will also be a stay on campus sign-in sheet, which will identify those students staying on campus.
- In an emergency mandatory evacuation, students and staff who remain on SC State's campus and in residence halls will be instructed to report to The Barbara Vaughn Fine Arts Center or Truth Hall (Mezzanine Level.)
- Emergency preparedness kits, as well as ample food and water are on campus and ready to be used if needed.
All future updates will be posted on SC State's website at www.scsu.edu. For more information contact Erica S. Prioleau, director of University Relations and Marketing at (803) 516-4791 or the 24-hour emergency phone line (803) 536-7188.
