SC State hosts exhibition of artist Jonathan David Brilliant

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Johnathan BrilliantSC State’s Fine Arts Center Gallery will host an exhibition by artist Jonathan David Brilliant, Oct. 20th – Nov. 1st, 2008.

Brilliant’s site-specific installations encourage the view to explore their relationship with the visual world through the use of pre and post consumer manufactured materials. His work is a synthesis of the South craft based approach to object making and the late 1970s British method of art making.

Brilliant describes himself as a Southern ‘has-been’ and a British ‘wannabe.’ He was born in 1976 in Charleston, S.C. Brilliant holds a bachelor of art degree in studio art from the College of Charleston and an M.F.A. in Spatial Arts from San Jose State University. He has exhibited his work in several groups and solo exhibitions both domestically and in Mexico.

In addition to site specific installations, Brilliant works in video, photography, digital imaging and ‘googles’ himself regularly. He currently lives and works in South Carolina with his wife Brooke and their cat Zero.

Brilliant has received numerous fellowships to artist residencies and communities including: The Vermont Studio Center, The Ox-Bow school of Art, The Penland School of Crafts, The Sumter Accessibility Program and The Redux Contemporary Art Center. For more of his work, visit his website at
